Sabbath Routine Guide: Creating Your Sacred Pause

Sabbath is not about doing nothing—it’s about doing what restores.

Not perfectly. Not rigidly. But intentionally.

1. Prepare Before You Pause

Sabbath begins before the day arrives.

  • Finish what you reasonably can

  • Write down what’s unfinished (so it doesn’t live in your mind)

  • Set expectations—this is your time to step away

This isn’t about clearing everything.
It’s about creating space to let go.

2. Create a Clear Boundary

A Sabbath without boundaries becomes just another day.

  • Silence notifications

  • Step away from work and productivity-driven tasks

  • Limit digital noise

You are not unavailable—you are restoring.

3. Slow Your Pace Intentionally

Don’t rush into your rest.

  • Move slower than usual

  • Speak softer

  • Let moments stretch instead of filling them

Rest is not just what you do—it’s how you move.

4. Reconnect with What Grounds You

Sabbath is a return.

  • Spend time in prayer or Scripture

  • Sit in silence without needing to fix or figure anything out

  • Be present—with God, with family, with yourself

This is where alignment happens.

5. Do What Restores—Not What Drains

Ask yourself one simple question:

Does this give me peace… or take it away?

Choose:

  • Gentle walks

  • Quiet reflection

  • Meaningful connection

  • Rest without guilt

Let your body lead you back to what it needs.

6. Release Control

This is the hardest part—and the most important.

Things will remain unfinished.

Let them.

Sabbath is the practice of trusting that God is still working… even when you stop.

7. Close with Intention

Don’t drift out of Sabbath—end it gently.

  • Reflect on what you felt

  • Acknowledge what you released

  • Carry the peace forward into your week

Because Sabbath isn’t just a day—it’s a reset.

Sabbath Prayer

Lord, I lay down what is unfinished and release what I cannot control.
Quiet my mind, restore my body, and renew my spirit.
Teach me to trust You in the stillness, not just in the striving.
Let this time of rest bring me back into alignment with Your peace.
Amen.
