Cast All Your Anxiety on Him
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
This is the verse that sits at the front door of this whole space — the one you see before you've even said why you came. Maybe that's fitting, because it's also one of the shortest, most direct instructions in all of Scripture about what to do with the weight you're carrying.
Cast. Not "manage." Not "process until it makes sense." Not "carry quietly until you figure it out." Cast — like setting something down deliberately, with intention, not just letting it slip away by accident.
And notice the word all. Not the anxieties you've sorted into "acceptable to bring to God" and the ones that feel too small, too messy, or too embarrassing to mention. All of it. The worry about your kids. The unease about money. The thing you haven't said out loud to anyone. The anxious feeling with no name. Peter doesn't ask you to sort it first. He just says: cast it. All of it.
But the verse doesn't end at the instruction — it ends at the reason, and the reason changes everything: because he cares for you. This isn't a God who tolerates your anxiety as an inconvenience. It's not "cast it because He's too busy to care, but He'll deal with it anyway." It's the opposite. The casting is invited because He cares. The weight matters to Him because you matter to Him.
Peter wrote this to people facing real suffering — not hypothetical hardship, but persecution, displacement, fear for their lives. He wasn't offering a tidy verse for easy days. He was handing a real instruction to people in real pain: you don't have to carry this. Give it to Someone who already cares about what it's doing to you.
Whatever you're holding today — name it, or don't, He already knows — you're invited to set it down. Not because it's small. Because He cares enough to hold it.
A prayer for today:
Lord, I bring You what I've been carrying — all of it, even the parts I haven't said out loud. I don't want to manage my anxiety alone anymore. Thank You that I don't have to earn Your care before I cast this on You — You already care, simply because I'm Yours. Help me set this down today and trust You to hold what I release. Amen.
